As of February 17, 2009 all full-power television stations will cease broadcasting in analog and switch to digital broadcasting.  A television set connected to cable, satellite or other pay television does not require a TV converter box.  Television sets can now be purchased with digital tuners that will allow digital broadcasting reception.

For households wishing to keep their analog tv sets after February 17, 2009, Congress has created a program to help.

The program allows a household to obtain up to two coupons, worth $40.00 each, that can be applied to the purchase of a TV Converter Box.  You can apply here.  You will also see how you can track your coupons after you apply for them.

This National Telecommunications and Information Administration website provides other information about the programand the digital broadcasting switch.
