TAX INFORMATION FOR THE 2014 TAX YEAR

How can I get help filing my 2014 taxes?

What if I’m not eligible for the free tax filing but need someone to file my taxes for me?

The IRS has prepared some useful information on finding a qualified tax professional:

Where can I get paper tax forms?

Due to budget cuts, the IRS did NOT provide many paper tax forms to public libraries and other public distribution sites this year.  Here is a list from the IRS of the ONLY paper tax forms that were sent to these locations for the public:

Forms 1040, 1040A and 1040EZ — NOT Instructions for those forms
Publication 4604 (“Use the Web for IRS Tax Products and Information”)

Customers may be able to make copies of other needed paper tax forms from Publication 1132, “Reproducible Copies of Tax Forms and Instructions”.  Check with your local library to see if they have this publication, often referred to as the “Reproducible Notebook”.

Libraries should also have a reference copy of Publication 17 in English and Spanish, and portions of it can be copied as well.  Taxpayers will also be able to access Publication 17 in English and Spanish online from www.irs.gov/Pub17 .   It will also be available as a free e-Pub for downloading from the IRS website and viewing on most e-Readers and mobile devices.

You can also order forms online from the IRS at http://www.irs.gov/uac/Forms-and-Publications-by-U.S.-Mail  or through calling the IRS at  1-800-829-3676.  You can also download and print many forms (including Instructions for Form 1040, 1040A and 1040EZ) from the IRS website at http://www.irs.gov/Forms-&-Pubs .

How can I contact the IRS?

The Memphis IRS office is located at 22 North Front Street in the Falls Building and is open Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.  Here is a list of the services available at that office:  http://www.irs.gov/uac/Services-Provided-FOUR

Many tax-related questions are answered on the IRS website at www.irs.gov .  You can also ask tax-related question on the IRS hotline at 1-800-829-1040.

What do I do when my computer is down?

Contact your local public library branch or call LINC/2-1-1 (just call 2-1-1 OR 415-2790 OR 1-855-354-4211) and we’ll provide you information about the tax sites and contact information for the IRS over the phone!  LINC./2-1-1 hours are generally Monday – Thursday, 10 AM – 8 PM, Friday and Saturday, 10 AM – 5 PM, and Sunday 1 – 5 PM.

To my knowledge, all the AARP and VITA sites do electronic filing ONLY. I would check with the IRS information number at 1-800-829-1949 to see what they advise.
